bulletNothing could get you more into the Christmas spirit than sipping delicious hot chocolate by the crackling fire and listening to carolers singing during the Live Nativity this past Sunday night. The Youth of The United Methodist Church of Westford held a Live Nativity in front of the church where teens played Mary, Joseph, the three kings, angels, and shepherds. A live donkey was brought in as part of the setting as well. Some members of the crowd joined in with the caroling and others just enjoyed chatting with friends or listening to the music by the fire. The Live Nativity is an event that is held every year and has been a tradition of the church for more than 20 years.

bulletFor science class this week, a few six graders have to construct and design their own ski resort! They have to design mountains, a skating pond, beginning, intermediate, and expert trails for skiing and/or snowboarding. It was suggested that they also included strategically placed lodges and first aid stations to maximize on profit to be made from food and beverages as well as to have easy access to help in case of emergencies. They need to construct a 2-D or 3-D Topography Map of their resort and create symbols for their map key. For their 3-D project it was suggested that they bring in play dough to construct mountains and landscaping. So my son brought home a copy of the recipe.

Play dough recipe

3 cups flour

1 1/2 cups salt

2 tbs cream of tartar

3 cups water

2 tbs oil

food coloring (optional)

bulletCombine ingredients in a pan. Cook over medium heat until a ball of dough forms. Turn off heat and let cool. Put into a airtight container to store. Will store about 5 days in room temperature but if you keep it in the fridge, it will last longer. (Note: if you want to change the color of the play dough, add food coloring to the mix when you initially assemble the ingredients).

Snowy Day in Westford

bulletAnother snowy day yesterday here in Westford. Hard to capture the beauty of the snow on the inside with a digital camera. Kids had a two hour delay on Friday after Thursday night’s snow storm and another two hour delay this Monday morning. Wonder if that means we have to make up 1/2 snowday in June.
