BUS PASS REGISTRATION FOR FY12 begins on Monday, June 13, 2011 and ends on August 26, 2011. Please note the new dates and times for bus pass pickup on the transportation page at http://www.westfordk12.us/pages/transportation for complete information and registration.

CUB SCOUTS – Pack 96 – Summer is a great time to meet new friends and have some fun outdoors.If you will be entering grades 1-5 in September and are interested in participating in Cub Scouts, we have 2 upcoming activities where you can join us to learn more. On Sunday June 26,we’ll spend the afternoon in Boston for a tour of Fenway Park. Then the morning of Saturday, July 16 we’ll host a fishing outing in Westford. THE SUMMER SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS will take place June 27 & August 7, 2011 at Westford Academy under the artistic direction of Michael Towers. The SSPA mission is to teach and exercise positive effective expression of self through the living arts: musical theater and dramatic acting. SSPA offers areas of study in Musical Theater, Dramatic Acting, and Technical Theater. Performances for the 2011 season include Bye Bye Birdie on July 16 & 17, 2011 and Fame on August 5 & 6, 2011. SSPA jr. – for students entering grades 1 & 2! SSPA jr. students will use the interactive, fun and exciting playmaking process to explore the world around them. During each session, students will harness their unique voices and learn to express themselves through performance. Underage Drinking and Marijuana Discussed October 22

Think underage drinking is merely an inevitable rite of passage? Think marijuana is basically harmless? Think again. Underage drinking is a common and pervasive problem not only in Westford, but in many surrounding towns. Marijuana use is common, too. In fact, just last spring, a number of Westford middle school students were caught with marijuana. Unfortunately, the age at which many kids start drinking and taking drugs is getting younger and younger. What can parents do?

Come to the Westford Parent Connection’s next presentation, Double Jeopardy: Underage Drinking And Marijuana. Marilyn Belmonte, a favorite speaker here in town, brings her vast knowledge and experience to the issue of young kids doing drugs. She will share with parents the signs of use and abuse and tell them what their next steps should be. Even if parents do not suspect their kids of drug use, Marilyn’s presentation is eye-opening and practical in terms of keeping the lines of communication open between family members. Marilyn’s talk is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Stony Brook Middle School Auditorium. Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and available at the Roudenbush Community Center, 65 Main Street, Westford, until noon on October 22. After 12:00 p.m., tickets may be purchased at the door for $8.

1ST ANNUAL WESTFORD ACADEMY PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE

The Art, Music, and Theater Arts departments proudly announce the 1st annual Westford Academy Performing Arts Showcase. Please join us for an evening of music and theater featuring performances by faculty with special student and alumni and guests. There will also be a display of student art works in the Performing Arts Center lobby. This benefit concert will be held on November 24th in the Westford Academy Performing Arts Center at 7:30 PM. The concert will be preceded by a dinner hosted by Principal Antonelli and catered by Fihlo’s Cucina.

WESTFORD ACADEMY THEATER ARTS GOES VAUDEVILLE, CHICAGO-STYLE!

The 1920s are roaring with Hot Jazz and Cold-Blooded Killers in CHICAGO The Musical, presented by the award-winning Westford Academy Theater Arts Department. CHICAGO features eye-popping, show-stopping hits including “All That Jazz” and “Razzle Dazzle.” How far would you go for fame and fortune? Plucked from the headlines, this hit Broadway musical is based on real-life crimes from the 1920’s. An edge-of-your-seat thriller, CHICAGO examines how the American justice system and our news media turn criminals into celebrities – as the audience cheers them on…And that’s showbiz, kid!

Shows will be Nov 6 (1/2 price for students with an ID),7,12,13 & 14 at 7:30 PM and Nov 8 at 5PM. Box office hours are Tuesday and Thursday starting Oct 20 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Tickets are also online @ www.wa.westfordk12.us/wata.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 437 ORIENTEERING INVITATIONAL

Open to all boys ages 12-18 on Sunday, October 18^th from 2-5 PM at Kennedy Pond in Westford – parking at the end of Trailside Way. Come and take advantage of the 5 orienteering courses at the pond as well as the outdoor setting to introduce you to the Troop, Scouting skills, back country survival techniques and, of course, refreshments. Boy Scout Troop 437 meets on Thursday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 PM when school is in session at the American Legion at 114 Dunstable Road. It is an enthusiastic, outdoors-focused Troop with a dedicated group of adult leaders and alumni. Troop 437 has a full calendar, with one weekend adventure per month, in addition to other events and service projects. Fundraising is limited to once a year so that the boys may dedicate their efforts to offering the boys opportunities of their choosing.

Travel registration (U10, U12, U14, U16, and U19) closes November 15th.

In-Town Registration (U6, U7, U8) closes March 15th.

Note:U9 / U10 all play travel in the spring season.
