For science class this week, a few six graders have to construct and design their own ski resort! They have to design mountains, a skating pond, beginning, intermediate, and expert trails for skiing and/or snowboarding. It was suggested that they also included strategically placed lodges and first aid stations to maximize on profit to be made from food and beverages as well as to have easy access to help in case of emergencies. They need to construct a 2-D or 3-D Topography Map of their resort and create symbols for their map key. For their 3-D project it was suggested that they bring in play dough to construct mountains and landscaping. So my son brought home a copy of the recipe.

Play dough recipe

3 cups flour

1 1/2 cups salt

2 tbs cream of tartar

3 cups water

2 tbs oil

food coloring (optional)

Combine ingredients in a pan. Cook over medium heat until a ball of dough forms. Turn off heat and let cool. Put into a airtight container to store. Will store about 5 days in room temperature but if you keep it in the fridge, it will last longer. (Note: if you want to change the color of the play dough, add food coloring to the mix when you initially assemble the ingredients).
